Welcome to the It's No Secret websiteHow to Become a MemberToday, Masons are encouraged to speak about their membership, but are still not urged to invite others to join. By tradition the applicant must make the first approach. However, an increasing number of Freemasons in Australia recognise that Freemasonry needs to be more open to attract new members, particularly young members. Masonic meetings, whether formal or social, are convivial. Masons enjoy each other’s company and also have a solemn duty of care towards one another. Many have found their spirits lifted and their lives made meaningful again, through their association with their fellows, or ‘brothers’ in the Craft. There are presently more than 40,000 active Freemasons around Australia, with some 14,000 in Victoria; 14,000 in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory; 9,000 in Queensland; 4,000 in Western Australia; 4,000 in South Australia and the Northern Territory, and 1,500 in Tasmania.
