What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry draws men together in friendship, goodwill, integrity and a sense of community. Freemasonry is a fellowship of men with values, a framework of life-affirming philosophies and teachings based on self -respect and compassion for others and an organisation committed to the delivery of community service and support for charitable causes.  We are not politically affiliated and we do not promote specific religious beliefs but we do ask that candidates express a belief in a Higher Power or a Supreme Being.

With origins that date back to the building of the Temple of King Solomon in biblical times, Freemasonry promotes trust, fair treatment of all,  and happiness in a life lived without excess. In the words of Dr Greg Levenston, current Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory:

“Freemasonry provides the firm foundations required to help men make appropriate and successful decisions that improve their lives, the lives of their families and their community. 
But it also requires individuals to own the decisions they make and to live with the outcomes, for this is also part of making good men better.”
